SUBJECT/TITLE: Reappointment of Citizen to serve on the City’s Audit Committee

STATEMENT OF ISSUE
The term of Audit Committee member Angela Poole expires June 2009, and she is eligible and wishes to serve another term. Members of this committee shall be appointed by the City Commission for terms of three years, and may not be appointed to more than two, full, consecutive terms.
The Audit Committee exists by authority of City Code, Part II, Chapter 2, Article VI, and is comprised of not less than three members, but not more than five members. Members shall be City residents, City property owners, or City utility customers who do not have direct financial interests in City of Tallahassee business. Members who are not City residents may be appointed to provide appropriate expertise or when deemed in the best interest of the Committee. Preference will be given to those members with experience in accounting, auditing, or with other financial-related experience.
The Audit Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the City Commission and to the Auditing Department on issues presented to the Committee relating to the oversight of audit activities for the City of Tallahassee and by the City Auditing Department. The Committee shall also serve as an intermediary between the City Commission and the City Auditor to prevent exertion of any undue pressure on the City Auditor in regard to the selection of audit projects.
