Tallahassee City Manager Anita Favors Thompson today announced the appointment of Thomas “Chris” Curry as director of the City of Tallahassee’s Aviation Department. Curry brings more than 30 years of experience in aviation to his new position providing administrative oversight at the Tallahassee Regional Airport (TLH). He most recently served as Executive Director of the Collier County Airport Authority, a position he held for the past three years. His appointment with the City of Tallahassee is effective January 22, 2014.
“With his Air Force background and seven years as an Executive Director for airports, I believe Mr. Curry has the experience, knowledge and vision to lead Tallahassee Regional Airport,” City Manager Anita Favors Thompson said. “Most recently, he was responsible for three airports in Collier County, and he has proven success with expansion projects and development. The Tallahassee Regional Airport is a regional hub that is primed to grow as an economic engine for our community. Mr. Curry comes at just the right time to help take TLH to the next level.”
Curry’s experience includes six years in director roles with the Gary Chicago Airport Authority and a 20-year career employed as an air traffic controller and airfield operations manager with the United States Air Force. He has also served as a project manager for airspace design and flight procedures development with Boeing-Jeppesen.
Curry holds an associate’s degree in Applied Science – Airway Science from Community College of the USAF in Montgomery, Ala., and a bachelor’s degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla.
In his new position, Curry will manage a staff of 53 and maintain responsibility for a $9.8 million budget.
The Tallahassee Regional Airport is owned and operated by the City of Tallahassee. TLH provides air service for a 100-mile market service area, including 32 counties in Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Commercial air carriers include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Silver Airways and US Airways.
