Tallahassee Police Make Arrest Following Months-Long Drug Investigation
December 03, 2020
The Tallahassee Police Department has been conducting a months-long investigation into a suspect believed to be involved in the illegal sale of narcotics. This is part of TPD’s on-going efforts to stem this activity in the community and enhance public safety.
The investigation revealed a possible residence for the suspect in the 2300 block of Quazar Circle. On Dec. 2, members of TPD’s Special Investigations Section and the Community Oriented Policing and Problem-Solving Squad located the suspect at his residence and took him into custody without incident.
A positive K-9 alert on a vehicle parked in front of the residence, which the suspect had been observed driving, resulted in a search that uncovered 39 grams of cocaine, six grams of Alpha PVP, marijuana and a loaded revolver. Inside the residence, marijuana was observed in plain view, drug paraphernalia was found in the suspect’s jacket pocket and $3,000 in cash was seized.
This arrest was the result of an investigation that began on Aug. 26 when TPD received a call for service in the 2600 block of West Tennessee Street in reference to drugs found in what appeared to be a vacated apartment. A search warrant for the apartment uncovered nearly three grams of cocaine, close to 12 ounces of Alpha PVP, drug paraphernalia and $84,000 in cash. The street value of the seized drugs was approximately $330,000.
Investigators determined drugs, drug paraphernalia and cash found in both residences belonged to the suspect.
This investigation is a testament to TPD’s commitment to protecting the community by addressing the illegal sale of narcotics. If you see this type of activity, report it by calling TPD at 850-891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.
Arrested:
Cortez Johnson, 33, for trafficking in cocaine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of Alpha PVP with the intent to sell, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple outstanding warrants.
