Chief Revell Announces Creation of Citizens Advisory Committee
January 27, 2020
Today, Jan. 27, Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell announced the creation of a Citizens Advisory Committee to enhance communication flow between the community and the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD). Applications to serve on the committee are currently being accepted and will be through Monday, February. 10, at 5 p.m.
The creation of this committee is one of Chief Revell’s top priorities as he establishes this integral flow of information to help enhance safety and reduce crime. The information TPD receives from the community is critical for the department to adequately represent the community and provide a safe environment for citizens.
“Many crimes happen in the view of people, but there is a real fear in coming forward with information. We have to make our community feel safe in coming forward. When we all work together, we will see a huge reduction in crime,” Chief Revell said.
To apply to serve on TPD’s Citizens Advisory Committee, visit Talgov.com/TPD and submit your information along with a current resume. Paper applications will also be available at TPD’s headquarters, 234 E. Seventh Avenue, and at the TPD community meeting this Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Sue McCollum Community Center, 501 Ingleside Avenue.
Together, the Citizens Advisory Committee and TPD will identify and focus on public safety issues and collaborate with community organizations, community leaders and key stakeholders to develop solutions to multi-faceted community concerns. The committee will make recommendations to the Chief of Police as to how issues should be addressed, factoring in knowledge of the inner workings of various neighborhoods throughout Tallahassee. The Citizens Advisory Committee will serve as an advocate for programs, ideas and methods to improve the relationship between TPD and the community. Working together on these objectives will serve to create a safer environment and reduce crime in Tallahassee.
Residents can learn more about the Citizens Advisory Committee at the community meeting on January 30 from 6-8 p.m. Additionally, this is an opportunity for the public to meet Chief Revell, the three new Deputy Chiefs and TPD’s Command Staff. Chief Revell will start the meeting with a short presentation. To gather feedback from the community and continue developing a dialogue about the issues facing Tallahassee, small roundtable discussions will then be facilitated by members of TPD. Light refreshments will be available.
