Attend a Lifelong Learning Extravaganza Launch Party Next Week
August 01, 2018
Well-known chef and television personality Julia Child said, "You'll never know everything about anything, especially something you love." Putting that phrase into action, Tallahassee Senior Services offers a variety of quality, expansive and new learning opportunities that capitalize on the reservoir of talented people, rich culture and surprising places to explore in this community – all at an excellent value.
Lifelong Learning Extravaganza (L3X) returns during the month of September for its ninth year and exemplifies lifelong learning at its finest, offering educational fare for everyone's palette. This hugely popular, month-long program provides adults 18 and older with the opportunity to gain knowledge about art, music, culture, science, nature, history, literature, food, drink and more. With more than 50 different activities available, including lectures, tours and field trips from hands-on soap making to viewing stalagmites, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
To preview some of the planned L3X activities, Tallahassee Senior Services is hosting launch parties, which are open to the public, on Monday, August 6, from 8:30-10 a.m. and Tuesday, August 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. During these times, interested participants will be able to pick up a course catalog, meet instructors and sponsors and enjoy refreshments. While these launch parties provide a fun preview, they are not required for registration.
Members of the Tallahassee Senior Center Foundation will be able to register for L3X classes beginning Wednesday, August 8. The general population can begin registering on Monday, August 13. To view the course catalog and register online, visit www.TallahasseeSeniorFoundation.org. Registration is open until a class fills up. Early registration is encouraged since many classes fill quickly.
During L3X, participants attend classes on a pick-and-choose basis. Classes begin as early as 8 a.m. and run until well after the sun goes down. With the wide variety of session options, the L3X schedule provides flexibility for both working and retired adults. All tours and courses vary in cost and are individually priced from $7 to $50. Full payment is required with registration. There will be no refunds unless the class is cancelled.
For more information about L3X, email Maureen.Haberfeld@talgov.com or call 891-4033. L3X is presented by the City of Tallahassee, Tallahassee Senior Center & Foundation and Leon County. It's sponsored by Capital City Trust Company, Clothesline, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Right at Home, YourLife Senior Living and other generous organizations.
