Senior Center Launches New Program for Outdoor Adventurists
Lifelong Outdoor Pursuits Program Kicks Off This Week
November 13, 2017
“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions,” said Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., an American jurist who served on the U.S. Supreme Court.
If you’re 50 years of age or older and interested in having new experiences of your own, check out the new Lifelong Outdoor Pursuits program. Join Tallahassee Senior Services staff for a program kick-off event on Friday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Maclay Gardens State Park, located at 3540 Thomasville Road. This event is free and open to the public.
Each month, the program will feature a new pursuit, complete with an educational workshop and hands-on demonstration. Some of the popular activities that staff are hoping to offer during the program are hiking, biking, paddling, camping, fishing, nature viewing, outdoor photography and much more.
The Maclay Gardens entrance fee will be waived for the kick-off event on Friday, Nov. 17, to allow everyone the opportunity to learn about the new Lifelong Outdoor Pursuits program. The kick-off event will feature an outdoor expo with multiple exhibitors, outdoor cooking demonstration, outdoor games and a program overview. Staff will be on-hand to answer questions.
A cook-out will also take place during the kick-off event. The cost per plate is $5. For more information on the event or to pre-register for lunch, call 891-4065 or email Susan.Davis@Talgov.com.
The Lifelong Outdoor Pursuits program is offered by the Tallahassee Senior Center and Foundation and sponsored in part by Leon County Government, which also funds senior programs at six county-owned community centers through the Senior Center Foundation.
The Tallahassee Senior Center, located at 1400 N. Monroe Street, is operated and maintained by the City of Tallahassee's Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department.
