ASC offers low-cost rabies vaccinations for pets
September 23, 2013
A simple injection is all it takes to save your pet's life! This Saturday, the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center (ASC) will hold a low-cost rabies vaccination clinic at the Lawrence-Gregory Community Center, located at 1115 Dade Street. The clinic will be held from 9-11 a.m.
"Our goal at the ASC is to help ensure that our community's pets are safe and healthy," said ASC Director Erika Leckington. "Rabies vaccinations can be life-saving, both for pets and for us. We hope that offering this low-cost option to pet owners will result in more animals getting vaccinated."
Rabies is a disease caused by a virus that attacks the nervous system. The rabies virus is fatal to warm blooded animals, including humans. State and local laws require all dogs, cats and ferrets to be vaccinated against rabies. Pets must be at least three months old to be vaccinated. At the clinic, animals must be in a pet carrier or on a leash.
A suggested donation of $5 per pet will help cover the cost of the vaccination, as well as future clinics. Free personalized identification tags will also be provided to all pets that attend Saturday's clinic. To shorten your wait time, you can download the registration paperwork by visiting Talgov.com/animals and complete it before you arrive.
Additionally, the ASC will have alternate hours of operation this Wednesday. It will be open from noon until 6:30 p.m. and will return to normal hours of operation the following day.
The Animal Service Center, located adjacent to Tom Brown Park at 1125 Easterwood Drive, is operated and maintained by the City's Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department.
