The Tallahassee City Commission has named Bert Fletcher as the new City Auditor. The appointment was unanimously approved at the July 10 City Commission meeting.
Fletcher has served as the interim City Auditor since April 1 upon the retirement of former City Auditor Sam McCall and has worked for the City of Tallahassee for 13 years. Fletcher received his Bachelor of Science from Florida State University and has been a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for 30 years in the state of Florida. He brings more than 31 years of experience to the job, both in the private and public sector.
"Bert has a proven track record and a focused approach to his duties and responsibilities," said Mayor John Marks. "He has conducted a variety of complex City audits which have resulted in significant monetary impacts. We are fortunate to have someone with his level of knowledge, experience and dedication, and he will ensure that the City’s internal audit function continues to enhance our operations and maintain our legacy of accountability and transparency."
As Auditor, Fletcher supervises a staff of six employees. The Office of the City Auditor provides the City Commission an independent, objective and comprehensive auditing program of City operations; advances accountability through the provision of assurance and advisory services; and actively works with Appointed Officials in identifying risks, evaluating controls and making recommendations that promote economical, efficient and effective delivery of City services.
