The City of Tallahassee’s Electric Utility department is now one of 184 of the nation’s more than 2,000 public power utilities to earn the coveted Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) recognition from the American Public Power Association (APPA). Earlier this week, the APPA presented the City with this award of distinction at its annual conference in Kissimmee, Fla.
“RP3 utilities are shining examples of reliable and forward-thinking public power utilities,” said Brett McKinney, chair of the APPA’s RP3 review panel.
The RP3 designation recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Criteria within each category are based on sound business practices and represent a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.
“Receiving the RP3 designation is a reflection of our commitment to our customers, who value having a reliable, citizen-owned electric utility,” said Rob McGarrah, general manager for the City’s Electric Utility department. “It’s an honor to be recognized on a national level for the work we are doing locally in Tallahassee.”
This is the eighth year that the RP3 recognition has been offered. APPA is a national organization representing more than 2,000 not-for-profits and community and state owned electric utilities.
