CRA to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed FY 2014 Budget
September 20, 2013
The City of Tallahassee Community Redevelopment Agency will hold a public hearing on Monday, Sept. 23, to receive input on its proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 operating and capital budget. The hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Tallahassee Room, located on the second floor of City Hall, 300 S. Adams St.
The mission of the CRA is to reduce conditions of physical blight within the agency's two redevelopment districts: the Greater Frenchtown/Southside Community Redevelopment Area and the Downtown District Community Redevelopment Area. To accomplish this, the CRA funds a variety of programs designed to improve the physical and business environment within the redevelopment areas. This has included programs in support of redevelopment, commercial façade renovations, commercial building painting, promotional activities/special events and retail incentives.
Funding for the CRA comes from existing property taxes and is based on increases in property values within the redevelopment districts. The funds generated within each redevelopment district can only be spent within the district in which they are collected.
The total proposed FY 2014 budget for the CRA is approximately $2.2 million, with $700,000 dedicated for operating expenses, $1.3 million for capital projects and $200,000 for in loan and lease reserves. The proposed FY 2014 operating and capital budget and agenda item are available online at http://www.talgov.com/ecd/ecd-economic-cra.aspx. Citizens can also call the CRA at 891-6500 to receive a copy.
