Tallahassee Police Make Arrest Following String of Burglaries
June 23, 2022
On June 22, the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) arrested an adult male for a dozen outstanding warrants associated with smash and grab burglaries that have occurred at commercial businesses across the community.
Just after 6:30 a.m. on the date of the arrest, the suspect was spotted by a groundskeeper in Railroad Square who recognized him as a person of interest during a recent burglary investigation. The groundskeeper immediately notified law enforcement, and TPD's Patrol Unit responded to the area. The suspect fled on foot and attempted to discard the backpack he was carrying in the process. Following a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Officers located and searched the backpack, where several items were found that could have assisted the suspect in future crimes. The swift thinking of the groundskeeper likely prevented additional businesses in the area from being burglarized.
TPD's Burglary Crimes Unit continues to remind business owners and citizens about the importance of reporting suspicious activity and implementing measures that can decrease the likelihood of a business being burglarized. These measures can include:
- Ensure your business has adequate lighting outside.
- Install functioning security cameras.
- Keep cash and high-value merchandise in locked cases.
- Keep front doors and windows clear of anything that might reduce visibility.
- Install impact resistant glass.
This arrest is a testament to TPD's tireless efforts and dedication to bringing justice to the victims in this case. Through continued investigations, detectives have also connected the suspect to several other smash and grab burglaries, including the most recent string in the Railroad Square district and additional charges are pending.
If you see something, say something. It can make a difference. Report criminal activity by calling TPD at 850-891-4200. You can also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.
