TPD Makes Arrest for Shooting at Mission Grove Apartments

At approximately 3:52 a.m. the Tallahassee Police Department responded to a shooting which occurred at the Mission Grove apartments, 2616 Mission Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered one victim suffering from a gunshot wound. TPD and Emergency responders immediately provided medical attention to the victim, who was later transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers were able to determine that the suspect, Lakendra Carter, entered the apartment unannounced and began to fight Jamia Wilson. While being pulled away Lakendra Carter produced a handgun and shot one time striking the victim Kelly Payne. Lakendra Carter fled to another apartment in the complex and was observed by arriving officers. Lakendra M. Carter exited the apartment and fled from officers but was ultimately apprehended and later transported to the Leon County Detention Facility.
