TPD to Host Body Worn Camera Community Forums

The Tallahassee Police Department began testing and evaluating the "Axon" body-worn camera system on April 12, 2018. The Tallahassee Police Department decided to utilize this technology to enhance transparency, to improve digital evidence collection, to strengthen officer performance and accountability, to document encounters between police and the public, and to investigate and resolve complaints and officer-involved critical incidents.
After a successful evaluation period, TPD gained approval from the City Commission to purchase the "Axon Flex 2" cameras. By the end of 2018, all TPD sworn members, as well as non-sworn Parking Enforcement Technicians will be issued "Axon Flex 2" cameras.
Tallahassee Police Chief Michael J. DeLeo will host several "Body Worn Camera Community Forums" to be held throughout the city. These forums are designed to educate citizens about what they can expect when interacting with officers, TPD's policy and procedures, as well as provide them the opportunity to ask questions regarding body worn cameras.
"With the implementation of this essential tool, we will continue our efforts to be transparent with the community, and increase public trust," stated Chief DeLeo.
